Testconsult and it's Russian distributor Panatest have recently been carrying out trials for the Russian Federal State power company FGCUES using the BGCMAP system for determining the rate of corrosion within buried transmission line tower anchors in Southern Russia.

Testconsult director, Huw Williams, who led the trials says that 'determining the existence of corrosion in buried ground anchors is traditionally carried out by excavation. This can exasperate the situation and is very time consuming. The BGCMAP is able to test a number of towers in a single day and evaluate which towers are corroding at a higher rate. Physical investigation can then be targeted at high risk towers enabling investigation resources to be targeted effectively.'
