Testconsult wins major new material testing contract for the Mersey Gateway project
Testconsult, part of James Fisher and Sons plc, has secured a major joint venture contract with Euroconsult SA, for the Mersey Gateway project, testing of soils, aggregate and concrete materials for a new six lane toll bridge over the River Mersey in North West England, which will link the towns of Runcorn and Widnes.
Working together as Eurotestconsult UK Ltd, the joint venture company will supply labour (up to 16 members of staff), equipment, supervision and temporary materials to undertake both onsite and off-site construction materials testing for the road bridge and associated side roads.
Testconsult has also secured a number of instrumentation and monitoring contracts, including construction monitoring, temporary structural monitoring and permanent structural health monitoring of the main structure, with the assistance of sister company Strainstall. These works include piezometers, settlement plates and monitoring the main structure for movement, stress, strain and temperature, as well as recording the weather conditions at different locations on the bridge.
The project is a major £1.86 billion and 20 year regeneration initiative to develop and improve transport networks in the area.
